The Onigiri Society
Onigiri is Japan’s soul food — a fast food, a slow food, and a comfort food in one. Since 2014, the Onigiri Society has worked from Kamakura, Japan to share onigiri and the culture behind it with the world, together with municipalities and companies across the country.
What we do
Certification of onigiri products and restaurants, the Onigiri Kentei knowledge exam, the annual Onigiri Summit® of member municipalities, partnerships with local governments, and research and publishing through our media, Onigiri Japan.
Members
17 municipal members from Hokkaido to Kyushu, one academic member, and 34 companies and organizations — food makers, retailers, machinery and service companies — support the platform.
Global
The Society is a registered strategic exporter under KKP, Japan’s national program for expanding rice exports (MAFF). We promote Japanese rice and onigiri overseas and certify onigiri restaurants abroad.
